When your department depends on radio dispatch, what happens behind the scenes matters.
That’s where FireTEXT Signal comes in.
FireTEXT Signal is the next evolution of our voice dispatch technology, designed to help FireTEXT® listen for dispatch activity, process radio communications, and get important information to responders quickly.
But Signal is about more than detecting a page.
We’re building it around three priorities:
Reliability. Visibility. Support.
And while a lot of the technology works quietly behind the scenes, we want to give you a look at what’s changing—without getting lost in the technical details.

A New Name for the Next Chapter

You may recognize some of this technology by its previous name: FirePITCH®.
As the system has grown beyond its original purpose, we felt the name should grow with it.
Going forward, this technology is becoming:
FireTEXT® Signal
Signal better represents what we are building.
It’s not just about detecting tones.
It’s about the entire path between the radio system and FireTEXT®—helping us recognize dispatch activity, process voice communications, monitor system health, and support the departments depending on it.
The name is changing, but the mission remains the same:
Help responders receive the information they need when it matters.
More Than Tone Detection
Fire department radio systems vary tremendously.
Some departments have dedicated channels. Others share countywide frequencies with multiple agencies. Some systems stay busy around the clock, while rural departments may experience long periods of radio silence.
Audio quality can vary, too.
That means a voice dispatch system can't simply assume every department and every radio transmission will behave the same way.
FireTEXT Signal is being developed with those real-world differences in mind.
Better Visibility Behind the Scenes

One of our biggest areas of improvement has been visibility.
When something doesn't work as expected, our support team needs more than a simple "online" or "offline" indicator.
We need enough information to understand what happened.
Recent improvements give FireTEXT® better insight into Signal activity and system status, helping our team investigate potential issues faster.
For departments, the benefit is straightforward:
Better visibility for us means better support for you.
Better Tools for Reviewing Dispatch Activity

We've also improved the tools available for reviewing radio and dispatch activity when troubleshooting is necessary.
When a department contacts us with a question about a dispatch, authorized personnel can more easily investigate what occurred around that event.
That can help answer questions such as:
- Was the radio transmission received?
- Was the audio clear?
- Was dispatch activity recognized?
- What information was available at the time?
- Is there something that needs further investigation?
These tools are primarily there to help FireTEXT® support departments when they need us.
Smarter System Configuration

No two radio environments are exactly alike.
Because of that, we've continued improving the tools our authorized team uses to evaluate and maintain Signal installations.
The goal isn't to constantly change a department's configuration.
It's the opposite.
We want better information so changes are made only when they're necessary and supported by what we're seeing.
That means more informed troubleshooting and less guesswork.
Better Radio Stream Awareness

FireTEXT Signal depends on receiving the radio communications it is supposed to monitor.
We've improved our ability to understand the status of those connections and identify situations that may deserve attention.
There's an important distinction here:
A quiet radio doesn't necessarily mean a broken radio.
Volunteer and rural departments can go long periods without radio traffic. Signal has to account for normal silence without treating every quiet period as a failure.
At the same time, when something truly isn't operating correctly, we want better tools to help identify it.
That's an area where we continue to invest.
Improving Voice Dispatch

Voice dispatch is another major focus.
Radio audio can include:
- Static
- Weak signals
- Background noise
- Fast-speaking dispatchers
- Different microphones and consoles
- Varying audio levels
FireTEXT® continues improving how that audio is handled and how useful dispatch information is presented to responders.
The goal isn't to pretend automated systems are perfect.
The goal is to make them increasingly useful while maintaining appropriate safeguards when information needs to be verified.
Designed for Real Departments
FireTEXT Signal isn't being built for a laboratory.
It's being built for actual public-safety radio environments.
That means supporting everything from a small volunteer fire department to larger multi-agency communications systems.
It also means understanding that departments may have different:
- Radio systems
- Dispatch procedures
- Internet connections
- Hardware
- Frequencies
- Tone configurations
- Coverage areas
- Operational requirements
Rather than forcing every department into one rigid configuration, Signal is being developed to better support those differences.
Reliability Doesn't Always Look Exciting
Some of the most important improvements we're making will never appear as a new button.
They're happening behind the scenes.
Things like better monitoring, better diagnostics, improved audio handling, stronger recovery tools, and better information for our support team don't necessarily make for flashy screenshots.
But they matter.
Because when a department calls us and says:
"Something didn't work."
We want to be able to investigate what happened and help find an answer.
That's more valuable than adding a feature simply because it looks impressive.
What's Rolling Out

The transition to FireTEXT Signal and some of its newer capabilities will happen over time.
Availability and functionality may depend on factors such as:
- Department configuration
- Existing FireTEXT services
- Radio environment
- Software version
- Hardware
- Deployment status
Existing customers should not interpret the new name as meaning their current service suddenly stops working.
This is an evolution of the platform, not an overnight replacement.
What We're Building

Development of FireTEXT Signal continues.
Our current direction focuses on areas such as:
- Improved reliability
- Better system awareness
- Improved voice processing
- Easier troubleshooting
- Better support tools
- Earlier identification of potential problems
- Stronger integration with the FireTEXT® platform
Some improvements will eventually be visible directly to customers.
Others will continue working quietly behind the scenes.
Both are important.
Looking Ahead

Our long-term vision for FireTEXT Signal goes beyond simply reacting when something goes wrong.
We want the platform to become increasingly capable of recognizing when something may need attention and giving our team the information necessary to investigate it.
That could mean better awareness of system health, audio quality, communications activity, and other indicators that help us support a department.
We aren't announcing specific future functionality or release dates today.
We're building the foundation carefully.
Part of the FireTEXT® Platform
The change to FireTEXT Signal also reflects something larger happening across FireTEXT®.
We're bringing more of our products and services together under one recognizable platform.
Dispatch.
Notifications.
Weather.
Radio.
Voice dispatch.
Responder tools.
Community communications.
Rather than feeling like unrelated systems, our goal is for these capabilities to work together as parts of FireTEXT®.
FireTEXT Signal is an important piece of that future.
Built to Work Behind the Scenes
Responders shouldn't have to understand everything happening behind FireTEXT Signal.
They shouldn't need to know how every component works.
They shouldn't have to troubleshoot the technology while they're trying to respond to an emergency.
That's our job.
Signal should work quietly in the background, helping FireTEXT® do what departments depend on it to do.
And when something does need attention, we want our team to have better tools to find it, understand it, and help resolve it.
That's what we're building with FireTEXT Signal.
Coming Next
Connecting Departments and Communities
For the final part of FireTEXT®: What's New & What's Next, we're going in a completely different direction.
We're going beyond the response.
We'll introduce what we're building with FireTEXT® Community and MyFireDepartment.net and talk about how departments could have a better way to connect with the people they serve.
We'll cover verified department pages, Community Profiles, public information, alerts, volunteer recruitment, local resources, and more.
Most importantly, we'll talk about how we're approaching Community without compromising the responder side of FireTEXT®.
